Session Details
8:30 am – 9:30 am Saving Lives and Improving Outcomes with Technology
Health care professionals and custody professionals work diligently as a team to deliver efficient and effective care to those in custody. Patients arrive at our facilities with untreated chronic health issues, mental health issues, and substance use disorders. Staffing for both custody and medical staff remain a challenge, and resources can be stretched thin as efforts are made to maintain custody and care. Over the past five to ten years, technologies have been introduced to supplement our efforts to deliver timely and effective care to those who need it most. This presentation will highlight some of the recent technological developments and how they can save lives and reduce adverse outcomes in our nation’s jails.
Learning Objectives
- Identify common challenges of delivering health care in jails
- Identify methods of leveraging technology to improve health services delivery and outcomes
- Identify barriers to implementing new technology in jails

The importance of data-driven decision-making and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) programs will be explored.

11:30 am – 12:30 pm Accreditation: Setting Standards for Healthcare in American Jails
This informative session will provide jail leaders with an understanding of the benefits associated with the accreditation process for their medical and mental health operations. As the recognized leader in correctional healthcare accreditation, NCCHC will work with your leadership team to take an objective look into the operation of your medical and mental health services. Providing not only a constitutionally acceptable level of care but engaging in best practices will allow your agency to improve the chances of reducing critical incidents and in-custody deaths.
