Celebrating CCHP Success: Scholarship Program Empowers Correctional Health Care Professionals

Thanks to a generous donation from Falcon Correctional and Community Services, the NCCHC Foundation awarded five scholarships in 2024 to correctional health care professionals who demonstrated financial need. Close to 100 individuals applied for the scholarship, highlighting the significant demand for support in the field.

Today, we are proud to celebrate the achievements of the first four recipients, who have successfully earned their Certified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP) designation:

  • Antoine Fleming, LCSW, CCHP
  • Brett Floyd, RN, CCHP
  • Robert Naugle, LMFT, CCHP
  • Gabrielle Root, CCHP

Earning the CCHP credential signifies a deep commitment to correctional health care. It demonstrates mastery of NCCHC standards and the ability to apply them effectively to enhance patient care quality. The CCHP designation is the most widely recognized certification in the field of correctional health care, serving as a mark of professionalism and expertise.

Reflecting on his achievement, Antoine Fleming shared:

“Becoming certified sets me apart from those who choose corrections solely for a paycheck. I want my patients and fellow professionals to know that I am serious about this work. Health care should not be dependent on the crimes a person is accused of committing. Everyone deserves quality care delivered by competent providers. Certification shows I am a professional dedicated to my craft. This scholarship was my path to earning that certification and respect.”

Mr. Fleming also emphasized the broader impact of his certification: “It means I am qualified to be viewed as a resource for those seeking factual information about correctional health—not just rumors.”

Matissa Sammons, MA, CCHP, NCCHC Vice President of Certification, expressed gratitude for Falcon’s ongoing support:

“We are incredibly thankful to Falcon Correctional and Community Services for supporting this scholarship program. I’m pleased to announce that they’ve committed to continuing the program in 2025. From the overwhelming number of applications we received, it’s clear this program is a start at addressing a critical need in the field.”

When the 2025 CCHP scholarship portal opens, it will be announced on the NCCHC website, through e-mail, and in the CorrectCare Extra e-newsletter.
