Q: RNs in my state are required to log 36 hours of continuing education every two years. Does that qualify for the 12 hours of CE required in Standard C-03 Professional Development?
A: Yes. In Standard C-03 Professional Development, the first compliance indicator states, “All qualified health care professionals obtain at least 12 hours of continuing education per year or have proof of a valid license in states where continuing education is required for licensure.” Over a two-year period, 36 hours equals 18 hours a year, which exceeds our 12-hour-a-year requirement. Showing evidence of current, valid licensure also meets the intent of this standard. Although recommended, additional tracking of training hours is not required.
