Spring Conference Scholarship Winners Envision a Future in Correctional Health Care

In April, the NCCHC Foundation hosted six bright scholars in New Orleans at the 2023 NCCHC Spring Conference on Correctional Health Care. Watch and listen as they speak about their experiences at the conference and what draws them to serve incarcerated patients. Selected from more than 300 applicants, they promise a bright future for our industry.

Each year, the NCCHC Foundation provides scholarships for students in health care fields and early-career professionals to attend live and virtual NCCHC conferences. To date, almost 100 scholars have shared in this experience. Each scholar is matched with a mentor, an experienced correctional health care professional who helps them make the most of the conferences and navigate their entry into corrections.

The Spring Conference scholars are:

  • Tatiana Aviles-Seidl, MA, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology
  • Dominique Bickford, ABSN, CNA, CMA, Concordia University, St. Paul
  • Erin Lockwood, MA, NCC, LPC-A, CCHP, Travis County Sheriff’s Office
  • Montessa Payne, LPN, Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections
  • Brandy Lee Watts, RN, Fayetteville State University

The NCCHC Foundation serves the public in pursuit of strong, equitable public health through correctional health care. For more information about the Foundation’s work, visit ncchcfoundation.org, or click here to donate now!
