NCCHC National Conference Brings the Field Together in October

The NCCHC National Conference on Correctional Health Care, the largest focused event in the field, will return to Las Vegas October 22-26 with education, networking, and exhibits. The conference will feature more than 100 sessions on medical care, mental health care, substance abuse disorder treatment, suicide prevention, nursing, and other critical topics.

Approximately 1,500 participants are expected from jails, prisons, and juvenile detention facilities across the country. Topics of special interest include sessions on better handoff reporting, breaking down silos, compassion fatigue, new federal guidelines for opioid use disorder treatment in corrections, telehealth, the effects of COVID-19, and using trauma-informed care to improve outcomes. In addition, NCCHC’s new Standards for Juvenile Health Services will be unveiled at the event. An exhibit hall of close to 100 booths will help participants find cost-effective solutions. Participants are eligible for up to 32.5 hours of continuing education for physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and others.

“The National Conference is incredibly important because it is the one place correctional health professionals from around the country can meet peers and experts, benchmark their operations, and freely ask questions about common challenges,” says NCCHC CEO Deborah Ross, CCHP. Ross notes that “after several years of limited travel and educational opportunities, participants are ready to get together and improve the quality of patient care.”
