The National Commission on Correctional Health Care has announced that the 2021 Spring Conference on Correctional Health Care, taking place virtually April 27-28, will be offered at no charge to professionals in correctional health care and those interested in joining the field.
“We recognize the tremendous commitment and sacrifice made by frontline correctional health care professionals over the past year. Because of COVID, facilities are facing budget challenges while there is a tremendous need for education and resources,” said Deborah Ross, CCHP, NCCHC CEO. “We are offering this free conference as a way to thank those in the field for their hard work, and we are extremely grateful to companies who stepped up to support this event.”
The Spring Conference features more than 60 sessions focused on all aspects of correctional health care: medical, mental health, nursing, juvenile, reentry, suicide prevention, legal, quality, administration, and treatment of substance use disorders. More than 140 experts from academia, local jails, state systems, health care service providers, and other institutions will facilitate the competitively selected sessions.
Live virtual sessions will take place April 27-28 to facilitate interaction and networking; participants will have through May 31 to watch additional sessions on demand.
Ross stated, “The challenges of providing health care in corrections have rightly received national attention over the past year. This is a tremendous opportunity for health care professionals, custody leaders, staff, and those studying the field to take advantage of a unique opportunity. In just the few days since registration opened, the response has been outstanding.”
Prior to the free conference, NCCHC is offering preconference webinars on April 19 and 26 on standards for health care in jails/prisons, juvenile detention, and opioid treatment programs. There is a fee for the preconference webinars.
The conference includes up to 78 accredited continuing education credit hours for physicians, nurses, dentists, psychologists, social workers, and certified correctional health professionals (CCHP).
