Kristin Merss, PhD, RN, Joins Journal of Correctional Health Care as Associate Editor

The Journal of Correctional Health Care is pleased to welcome Kristin Merss, PhD, RN, as an associate editor, bringing her expertise in aging, incarceration, and correctional health care to the journal’s editorial leadership.

Dr. Merss is an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Nursing. Her research explores the intersection of incarceration and health, with a particular focus on older adults and people aging within the criminal legal system.

As associate editor, Dr. Merss will help evaluate manuscript submissions and make provide recommendations on publication decisions. She also will work to expand the journal’s reach and impact by encouraging high-quality submissions, recruiting peer reviewers, and serving as an ambassador for the publication. In addition, she will collaborate with the Editor in Chief Alysse Wurcel, MD, MS, on editorial policies, editorial board development and meetings, and other initiatives designed to strengthen the journal.

Dr. Merss’ appointment adds valuable expertise at a time when aging in correctional settings is receiving increasing attention from health care professionals, administrators, researchers, and policymakers. Her commitment to research that is both evidence-based and grounded in the experiences of people living and working in correctional settings aligns closely with the Journal of Correctional Health Care’s mission to advance knowledge and practice across the field.

The Journal of Correctional Health Care is the official journal of the National Commission on Correctional Health Care and publishes original research, reviews, case studies, and other scholarship addressing health care in correctional settings.
