Rudy Nunez, MD, CCHP-CP, has been elected to a three-year term on the NCCHC Board of Trustees. His term will run from 2026-2029. Dr. Nunez, a staunch advocate of NCCHC’s mission, standards, and accreditation program, began his correctional health care career more than 30 years ago, serving as medical director for a private health care company in Puerto Rico. Over the next 20 years, he served as chief health officer at the South Florida Reception Center, medical director at the Brevard County Jail Complex, chief medical officer for MEDIKO, Inc., Florida regional medical director for Centurion Health, and associate chief medical officer for Armor Health.
Since officially “retiring,” Dr. Nunez has devoted himself to serving as an NCCHC physician surveyor, participating in several surveys each month. He was voted Surveyor of the Year in 2025. Dr. Nunez was a member of the task force that revised the 2026 jail and prison standards, as well as the task force for the previous editions published in 2018. He is a CCHP-CP (clinical provider), has been a member of the CCHP-CP Subcommittee since 2012, and previously served on the CCHP Board of Trustees from 2014–2017.

Every patient deserves dignity and high-quality care, and I am continually inspired by the tireless dedication of the physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and administrative staff who serve on the front lines of correctional medicine every day,” said Dr. Nunez.
