The National Commission on Correctional Health Care is pleased to recognize the latest group of professionals who have earned Certified Correctional Health Professional credentials, demonstrating their commitment to excellence in correctional health care.
This quarter, 179 professionals earned NCCHC certifications, including:
- 156 Certified Correctional Health Professionals (CCHP)
- 19 Certified Correctional Health Professional–Nurse (CCHP-N)
- 2 Certified Correctional Health Professional–Clinical Provider (CCHP-CP)
- 2 Certified Correctional Health Professional–Mental Health (CCHP-MH)
The growth of the CCHP-N credential is particularly encouraging. Introduced earlier this year to recognize the vital role of licensed nurses working in correctional settings, the certification validates specialized knowledge of correctional health care, NCCHC Standards, legal and ethical principles, and interdisciplinary collaboration. As correctional health care systems face increasing clinical complexity and workforce challenges, more nurses are choosing certification to demonstrate their expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality care.
“Correctional nurses are the backbone of health care delivery in our nation’s jails and prisons,” said Matissa Sammons, MA, CCHP, vice president of certification. “The growth of the CCHP-N certification reflects the profession’s commitment to excellence and recognizes the critical role nurses play in ensuring safe, effective, and standards-based care.”
Earning a CCHP certification represents more than professional achievement. It signifies a commitment to nationally recognized standards, lifelong learning, and the delivery of constitutional, evidence-based health care in correctional settings. Employers also benefit from certification by strengthening workforce development, supporting quality improvement efforts, and reinforcing public confidence in their health care programs.
