The National Commission on Correctional Health Care is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer L. Aldrich, MD, to the NCCHC Board of Representatives as the representative for the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Aldrich is a professor of clinical medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and a nationally respected leader in infectious disease, HIV care, LGBTQ+ medicine, and correctional health care. Her work has focused on advancing equitable, evidence-based care for underserved populations, including incarcerated individuals and people living with HIV.
Since 2016, Dr. Aldrich has overseen and managed the care of approximately 500 patients with HIV and hepatitis B within the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections while also helping expand hepatitis C treatment access for incarcerated populations. In addition to her clinical work, she teaches medical students and residents about correctional medicine through the Temple University Health System, with a focus on health equity, structural barriers to care, and the ethical complexities of practicing medicine in correctional settings.
Dr. Aldrich has also contributed to scholarship examining incarceration and health care ethics, including coauthoring the 2023 AMA Journal of Ethics article Gender Affirming Care, Incarceration, and the Eighth Amendment.
“I look forward to serving on the NCCHC Board because of my longstanding commitment to advancing high-quality, ethical, and evidence-based health care for incarcerated populations,” said Dr. Aldrich.
“Dr. Aldrich brings an extraordinary depth of expertise and a strong commitment to patient-centered care,” said Deborah Ross, CEO of NCCHC. “Her experience across infectious disease, correctional medicine, LGBTQ+ health, and medical education will bring valuable perspective to NCCHC’s leadership and ongoing work to advance quality health care in confinement settings.”
NCCHC welcomes Dr. Aldrich to the Board of Representatives and looks forward to her contributions to the organization and the field.
