Webinar: Chronic Pain Management: Role of the Mental Health Provider
April 6, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Presenter: Robyn Eatmon, PhD, Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility
Managing chronic pain in the correctional setting is particularly challenging for health care professionals, due to high rates of co-occurring substance use disorders and other psychiatric conditions. Chronic pain is a risk factor for suicide, and depression is common among patients living with chronic pain. A comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach for the assessment and management of chronic pain is considered a best practice.
In this presentation, the speaker will provide an overview and rationale for the role of the mental health clinician in managing chronic pain. The importance of adopting a patient-centered approach and embracing the spirit of motivational interviewing will be discussed in the context of chronic pain management. The speaker will also describe key components of a 12-week, cognitive behavioral pain management program that was specifically designed for incarcerated patients. Practical tools (e.g., pain logs, in-cell homework, and sample treatment plans) will be reviewed. This presentation will especially benefit mental health/behavioral health clinicians working in correctional health care.
$65 ($55 for CCHPs), includes access to the power point presentation, the webinar recording and CE credit – 1.50 hours for ACCME, ANCC, APA, and CCHP.
