Patients arrive at our facilities with untreated chronic health issues\, mental health issues\, and substance use disorders. Staffing for both custody and medical staff remain a challenge\, and resources can be stretched thin as efforts are made to maintain custody and care. Over the past five to ten years\, technologies have been introduced to supplement our efforts to deliver timely and effective care to those who need it most. This presentation will highlight some of the recent technological developments and how they can save lives and reduce adverse outcomes in our nation’s jails. \nLearning Objectives \n\nIdentify common challenges of delivering health care in jails\nIdentify methods of leveraging technology to improve health services delivery and outcomes\nIdentify barriers to implementing new technology in jails\n\n10 am – 11 am Interdisciplinary Leadership: Improving Operations and Reducing Adverse Medical Events \n This interactive session will focus on the importance of collaborative leadership among custody command staff and medical & mental health administrators. It’s critical that all levels of any operation work together to ensure the best care\, custody\, and control are provided to incarcerated individuals. Regular interaction that includes formalized meetings and impromptu problem-solving sessions will be discussed. The importance of data-driven decision-making and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) programs will be explored. \nLearning Objectives \n\nIdentify challenges associated with custody and medical care in jail facilities\nDiscuss vulnerabilities associated with adverse events\, to include suicide attempts\nIdentify opportunities to improve collaboration and leadership in your jail\n\n11:30 am – 12:30 pm Accreditation: Setting Standards for Healthcare in American Jails \nThis informative session will provide jail leaders with an understanding of the benefits associated with the accreditation process for their medical and mental health operations. As the recognized leader in correctional healthcare accreditation\, NCCHC will work with your leadership team to take an objective look into the operation of your medical and mental health services. Providing not only a constitutionally acceptable level of care but engaging in best practices will allow your agency to improve the chances of reducing critical incidents and in-custody deaths. \nLearning Objectives \n\nUnderstand how standards are critical to protect your organization and staff\nExplore opportunities to improve care and reduce adverse events\nIdentify the benefits of Continuous Quality Improvement\n\n  \n
